Our History

After the pandemic, a clear need emerged within the Hispanic business community for guidance and support in navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship. During discussions among Hispanic entrepreneurs convened as part of the planning for the traditional Delaware Hispanic Awards organized by the Delaware Hispano Magazine, it became evident that there was a desire to establish a Hispanic chamber. This was an initiative that was generated organically from within the community and from grassroots efforts. In response to this call, Dr. Ronaldo Tello and a committed group of volunteers initiated a strategic planning process modeled after SPiN (Strategic Planning in Nonprofits) by the Satterberg Foundation. This approach, encompassing the stages of Organize, Imagine, and Launch, enabled the organization to gather crucial insights (including interviews and a survey which received 143 responses), engage with stakeholders, and craft a mission-driven plan rooted in the needs and aspirations of the community.

With steadfast support from dedicated figures including Liliana Quintero, Danny Perez, Karen Lucas, Raquel Ferrer, Maria Basilio, Vanessa Spence, Councilwoman Maria Cabrera, as well as organizations like the Hispanic American Association of Delaware (HAAD), the Delaware SBDC, and the Delaware Black Chamber of Commerce, alongside generous funding from sponsors such as Barclays, Del-One, Walmart, and HAAD, the Delaware Hispanic Chamber of Commerce was officially established in late 2023. Rooted in a commitment to address the evolving needs of the Hispanic business community, the chamber swiftly gained traction and recognition, fueled by a leadership predominantly composed of first-generation Americans deeply connected to the neighborhoods they serve.

Through strategic partnerships, engagement with funding organizations, and a rapidly expanding membership applications exceeding 200, the chamber set the stage for its formal inauguration on March 15, 2024. This milestone marked the commencement of its initiatives and events, heralding a new era dedicated to empowering and uplifting Hispanic businesses throughout the region.
